Ascot Design was instructed to design a 64-bedroom care home situated on the site of a former guesthouse and family home in Berkshire.
The site is surrounded by established residential properties and, therefore, a major concern was how the introduction of a new building of this scale could potentially impact on the privacy and living conditions of neighbouring dwellings.
Our solution was to design a building shape, echoing the traditional local architecture and incorporating a series of visual breaks making the building less imposing. Additionally, all windows to habitable rooms would be positioned to respect privacy and avoid overlooking neighbouring properties.
Working closely with the landowner and Local Planning Authority, planning permission was achieved, and subsequently the site was sold on to an established care provider.
To meet specific criteria and requirements of the new owners, the building design was refined and taken through the detailed design process and the construction phase of this development has now commenced.
