SPORTS FACILITY

About This Project

This world-class Archery ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Surrey, is part of the legacy from the 2012 London Olympic Games and would provide a unique indoor training and competition facility for all involved in the sport.

Acting on behalf of the client, the planning consultant recommended that Ascot Design would be a perfect partner to progress the project, following the rejection of a previous design by another company.

We undertook an extensive study of the sport and its requirements, to ensure the Centre would be used by all levels of skill, from a local novice to a full international competitor. The study included a review of Lilleshall Hall, the training venue for Team GB, which provided an informative insight into the specific requirements of elite archers.

Every aspect of the new facility was meticulously planned, including precise heating and lighting arrangements and the provision of the correct ceiling heights in the main hall to accommodate all types of bows safely.

In keeping with a facility of this status, the building was equipped with a crèche, sports shop, club room and cafeteria, as well as a gallery for spectators and VIPs.

The design was accredited by an International Judge Emeritus for World Archery on behalf of the Grand National Archery Society, who said:

“This design seems to include all the best facilities I have seen and combined into one facility, is to be admired… and will benefit archery as a whole.”
