SYMPATHETIC EXTENSION

About This Project

“Thank you very much for getting the plans over to us, we are delighted with what has been put forward.”

“Thank you, still loving the house very much – feels like the new part has always been there.”

Situated on the prestigious Oxshott Crown Estate in Surrey, this house was originally designed for a client and constructed by utilising the Ascot Design team. After years of enjoyment it was sold on to its current owners, who are extremely pleased with their new home.

With specific living requirements in mind, the owners sought to sympathetically extend the property and wanted Ascot Design to assist, impressed by our attention to detail within the existing house.

The client insisted that the extension should complement the appearance and neo-classical characteristics of the original building, and their accommodation had to be delivered without compromise.

By applying the same approach and commitment we do to all our projects, the clients were placed at the centre of the design and build process and their expectations were fulfilled throughout every stage. Being significantly involved from start to finish, the Ascot Design team interviewed contractors, monitored progress and issued certificates on successful completion of work.

One idea introduced to the accommodation included an orangery with frameless glass walls behind a classical colonnade. This added a unique room to the property and a setting that combined both inside and outside living qualities, including a wall of bi-folding doors that can be removed to combine the contrasting spaces.

Internally the high standard of finish and specification had to match the existing house and included a ‘floating’ staircase, flooded by natural daylight and located in front of a double-height picture window.
